CPUT BTech: Architectural Technology (Part Time) Courses and Fees
Course Information and Fees
ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGY (Part Time)
BTech: (Baccalaureus Technologiae)
The 2-year part-time BTech programme offered in collaboration with SAIA’s Open Architecture came about in 2014 after the Department of Architectural Technology and Interior Design had successfully experimented with a range of digital technologies from 2011, to create blended studio learning experiences. We are proud to say that we’re the first University to collaborate with Open Architecture and through this collaboration we have shown that Architecture can be mastered through blended and online learning methodologies.
Both the full-time and part-time offerings of the BTech programme are currently being phased out. There will, therefore, be no part-time BTech intake in 2024.
The BTech will be replaced by an Advanced Diploma offered from 2024, according to the new HEQSF structure. The Advanced Diploma will be at the same NQF level as the current BTech programme (NQF level 7) and it will lead to the same Professional (SACAP) registration category, namely Senior Architectural Technologist.
In line with the Department of Architectural Technology and Interior Design’s commitment to accommodate diverse student needs, this new programme will be offered in a flexible and blended format. The detail of the learning design will be made available in due course. In the meantime, you can keep an eye on the CPUT website www.cput.ac.za and read the statement by Open Architecture here: http://www.openarchitecture.co.za/content/academic-partners For enquiries, contact the Faculty Officer, Ms Thandi Madadasana at MadadasanaT@cput.ac.za
Once the necessary experience has been gained, the Senior Architectural Technologist is able to competently handle small to medium size work independently.
Graduates can apply to the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) for registration as Candidate Architectural Technologists.
