Course Information and Fees

DENTAL TECHNOLOGY

BTech: (Baccalaureus Technologiae)

This programme is a one year qualification following the three year National Diploma: Dental Technology. The purpose of this qualification is to enable successful students to be registered with the SADTC as dental technologists. This qualification and registration entitles the bearer to become a registered dental laboratory owner who may work independently and for his/her own account while employing other dental technicians and technologists or to oversee a dental technology laboratory as supervisor. A final practical assessment is conducted which if completed successfully, will enable the qualified student to register with the SADTC. All subjects in this programme do not have a final examination.Important notice regarding the BTech: Dental Technology

Students who intend to enrol for this qualification for the first time in 2024 should note that it will not be possible to continue with any Baccalaureus Technologiae after 2024as this category of qualification will be phased out.
This is of particular importance to dental technicians who wish to register in future as dental technologists, bearing in mind that only a person with a BTech degree may own and or supervise a dental technology laboratory. The latter does not apply to practitioners who had such rights obtained under older qualification. For clarity the SADTC can be contacted.
Potential students are advised to contact the Department of Dental Sciences to seek greater clarity in this regard.
The CPUT website can be visited regarding new qualifications which may not be in the university/ faculty prospectus.
