SOMATOLOGY (Has been introduced in 2018 to replace the ND: Somatology qualification)
Somatology comes from the Greek roots meaning “body†and “study†and thus refers to the study and the treatment of the body as a whole. Somatology is a multi-disciplined profession where somatologists treat a variety of skin and body conditions in a holistic manner. The specific focus is on facial and body therapies, massage therapies, reflexology, aromatherapy, manual lymph drainage, stress management, complementary therapies, the provision of nutritional advice as well as advanced therapies which include a range of anti-ageing and skin rejuvenation treatments.
The programme also includes aesthetic aspects of the skin and body such as make-up, temporary or permanent hair removal as well as on hand and foot treatments. They assess and provide relevant treatments for a variety of skin and body conditions. The cornerstone of all treatments is the holistic approach for all treatments where all aspects of the individual are taken into consideration to maintain and improve the physical, mental and emotional well-being
